五月五日的端午节，你赠与了我一枝艾草。
On the Dragon Boat Festival on May 5th you gave me a branch of mugwort.
故去的人已看不见，新结交的朋友又在万里之外。
The departed ones are no longer visible while new friends are thousands of miles away.
往日一心只想为国尽忠的人，现在已经白发苍苍。
Those who used to be wholeheartedly devoted to the country are now old and gray-haired.
我想要从屈原那里得到希望，只是三湘被辽海阻隔太过遥远。
I want to gain hope from Qu Yuan but the Three Xiangs are separated by the distant Liaohai Sea.
注释：
即事：就眼前之事歌咏。
即事 means to sing about current affairs.
故人：古人，死者。
故人 refers to ancient people or the deceased.
新知：新结交的知己。
新知 refers to newly made friends or acquaintances.
丹心：指赤红炽热的心，一般以“碧血丹心”来形容为国尽忠的人。
丹心 refers to a passionate and devoted heart often described as a heart as red as blood to depict loyalty to the country.
夙昔：指昔时，往日。
夙昔 means in the past in former times.
灵均：形容土地美好而平坦，含有“原”字的意思。在这里指屈原。
灵均 describes a land that is beautiful and flat with the meaning of origin. Here it refers to Qu Yuan.
三湘：指沅湘、潇湘、资湘（或蒸湘），合称“三湘”。也可以指湖南一带。
三湘 refers to the three rivers namely Yuan River Xiang River and Zi River (or Zeng River) collectively known as Three Xiangs. It can also refer to the Hunan region.
隔：间隔，距离。
隔 means to separate or create a distance.
辽海：泛指辽河流域以东至海地区。
辽海 broadly refers to the area east of the Liao River to the sea.
