Translation:
From Xiaqiu walk west for more than 120 steps. Across the bamboo forest you can hear the sound of water like the sound of jade pendants colliding on a person's body which brings joy to the heart. Cut down the bamboo and open up a path (to walk through). Along the way you will see a small pool with exceptionally cool water. The pool has a stone bottom with some parts of the stone turned over and exposed to the water surface. It becomes a high ground in the water a small island uneven rocks and various shapes of stones. Lush green trees green vines covering and entwining swaying and hanging down uneven and fluttering with the wind.
There are about a hundred fish in the pool swimming in the air without any support. The sunlight shines directly (to the bottom of the water) and the shadows of the fish are reflected on the stone motionless. Suddenly they swim away into the distance coming and going agile and lively as if playing with each other.
Looking southwest from the small stone pool the stream twists and turns like the Big Dipper winding like a snake sometimes hidden and sometimes visible. The terrain on both sides intertwines like a dog's teeth and it is impossible to know the source of the stream.
I sit by the pool surrounded by bamboo and trees quiet and desolate with no one around. It makes people feel melancholy bone-chilling cold quiet and profound permeated with a sense of sadness. Because the environment here is too desolate it is not suitable to stay for a long time so I recorded the scene here and left.
The people who went to play together were Wu Wuling Gong Gu and my younger brother Zong Xuan. There were also two young men surnamed Cui who went with us. One was called Shuji and the other was called Fengyi.
