频频叹息花被狂风吹落太多,芳香渐消失又要过一个春天。
Frequent sighs as the flowers are blown away by the strong wind their fragrance gradually fading and another spring will come.
应是价格太高人们不敢询问,又因香气太浓蝴蝶难以亲近。
It must be because the price is too high that people dare not inquire and also because the fragrance is too strong that butterflies find it difficult to approach.
只有皇宫才配生长这种鲜花,哪能忍受让它沾染路上灰尘。
Only the imperial palace is worthy of growing such flowers how can they tolerate letting them be tainted by dust on the road?
等到把花移植到皇宫上林苑,王孙贵族才为没有买而遗恨。
Only when the flowers are transplanted to the imperial palace's Shanglin Garden will the noble descendants regret not buying them.
注释:
牡丹,原产山西一带,唐初移植长安,成为珍品,誉为国花。贞元(唐德宗年号,785—805)时,对牡丹玩赏更成为长安之社会风气。柳浑《牡丹》诗曰:“近来无奈牡丹何,数十千钱买一棵。”
Peony originally from Shanxi was transplanted to Chang'an in the early Tang Dynasty and became a precious flower renowned as the national flower. During the Zhenyuan period (785-805) of the Tang Dynasty appreciating peonies became a social trend in Chang'an. Liu Hun's poem Peony says Recently alas how expensive peonies are costing tens of thousands of coins for one plant.
频:频频不断。潜消:暗暗地消失。
Frequent: repeatedly. 潜消: gradually disappear.
缘:因为。
缘: because of.
红英:鲜花。称:配,够格。
红英: fresh flowers. 称: worthy qualified.
上林苑:秦旧苑,汉武帝扩建,周围三百里,有离宫七十所。苑中养禽兽,供皇帝春秋打猎。此指唐代宫苑。
Shanglin Garden: an ancient garden in the Qin Dynasty expanded by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty with a circumference of 300 li (about 150 kilometers) and seventy palaces. The garden housed birds and animals providing hunting grounds for the emperor in spring and autumn. Here it refers to the palace gardens of the Tang Dynasty.
王孙:借指富贵人家子弟。《史记·淮阴侯列传》:“吾哀王孙而进食,岂望报乎!”
王孙: refers to the children of wealthy and noble families. Records of the Grand Historian Biography of Marquis of Huaiyin: I pity the children of the wealthy and noble families and offer them food without expecting anything in return!
