男子汉当以国事为重，从军远征，从小就在幽燕纵横驰骋。
A true man should prioritize national affairs join the military and embark on distant expeditions. Since childhood he has been riding freely in the region of Yan and You constantly competing with others on horseback without cherishing his own life.
经常与人在马上比试胜负，从不珍惜七尺身躯。
He often competes with others on horseback never cherishing his own life which is merely seven feet long.
奋勇搏杀，没人敢上前招应；气宇轩昂，脸上的胡子像刺猬的毛丛生。
He fights bravely and fiercely and no one dares to challenge him. He has a majestic appearance with his beard standing up like a hedgehog's spines.
陇下黄沙弥漫，上面白云飘飞，未报朝廷恩情怎能轻易言归。
The yellow sand fills the air in the region of Long while white clouds float above. How can one easily return without repaying the grace of the court?
辽东少妇年方十五，她弹熟了琵琶能歌善舞。
In the region of Liaodong there is a young woman who is only fifteen years old. She is skilled in playing the pipa and excels in singing and dancing.
今日用羌笛吹一支出塞乐曲，感动得全军将士泪下如雨。
Today she plays a tune on the Qiang flute moving the entire army to tears.

古意：拟古诗，托古喻今之作。

幽燕：今河北、辽宁一带。古代幽燕地区游侠之风盛行。
Yan and You: Refers to the region of Hebei and Liaoning. In ancient times it was known for its prevalence of chivalrous warriors.
赌胜：较量胜负。马蹄下：即驰骋疆场之意。
Competing for victory: Engaging in competitions to determine the winner. Under the hooves of horses: Refers to the battlefield.
“由来”句：好男儿向来就轻视性命。七尺，七尺之躯。古时尺短，七尺相当于一般成人的高度。
The phrase 由来 implies that a true man has always disregarded his own life. 七尺 refers to the height of a person with 七尺之躯 meaning an average adult's height in ancient times.
“杀人”句：杀人而对方不敢上前交手，即所向无敌之意。
The phrase 杀人 implies that he kills his enemies and they dare not confront him indicating his invincibility.
“须如”句：胡须好像刺猬的毛一样纷纷张开，形容威武凶猛。磔（zhé）：纷张。
The phrase 须如 describes his beard spreading out like the spines of a hedgehog symbolizing his fierceness. 磔 means spreading out.
黄云：指战场上升腾飞扬的尘土。陇：泛指山地。
