译文:
清晨听到游子高唱离别之歌,昨夜薄霜刚刚渡过黄河。
In the early morning I heard the traveler singing a song of farewell. The light frost of last night has just passed the Yellow River.

怀愁之人实在不忍听那鸿雁哀鸣,何况是那与故乡遥隔千山万水,身在旅途的异乡客。
Those who are filled with sorrow cannot bear to hear the mournful cries of the wild geese let alone those who are far away from their hometown separated by thousands of mountains and rivers and are travelers in a foreign land.

潼关晨曦寒气越来越重,天气愈来愈冷,京城深秋捣衣声愈接近傍晚愈多。
The morning light at Tongguan is getting colder and colder the weather is getting colder and colder and the sound of pounding clothes in the deep autumn of the capital city becomes more frequent as evening approaches.

请不要以为长安是行乐所在,以免白白地把宝贵时光消磨。
Please do not think that Chang'an is a place of pleasure so as not to waste precious time in vain.

注释:
魏万:又名魏颢。上元(唐高宗年号,674—676)初进士。曾隐居王屋山,自号王屋山人。
Wei Wan: Also known as Wei Hao. He passed the imperial examination in the early years of Shangyuan (the reign title of Emperor Gaozong of Tang 674-676). He once lived in seclusion on Wangwu Mountain and called himself Wangwu Mountain Man.

游子:指魏万。
Traveler: Referring to Wei Wan.

离歌:离别的歌。
Farewell song: A song about parting.

微霜:薄霜,指秋意已深。
Light frost: Thin frost indicating that autumn has deepened.

初渡河:刚刚渡过黄河。魏万家住王屋山,在黄河北岸,去长安必须渡河。
Just crossed the river: Just crossed the Yellow River. Wei Wan lived on Wangwu Mountain on the north bank of the Yellow River. To go to Chang'an he had to cross the river.

“鸿雁”二句:设想魏万在途中的寂寞心情。
The two lines about wild geese: Imagining the lonely mood of Wei Wan on the way.

客中:即作客途中。
On the way as a guest: Referring to being a traveler.

关城:指潼关城。
Pass city: Referring to Tongguan City.

树色:有的版本作“曙色”,黎明前的天色。
Color of the trees: Some versions use dawn color referring to the color of the sky before dawn.

催寒近:寒气越来越重,一路上天气愈来愈冷。
The approaching cold: The cold air is getting heavier and the weather is getting colder and colder along the way.

御苑:皇家花苑,代指长安。
Imperial garden: Referring to the royal flower garden representing Chang'an.

砧声:捣衣声。
Sound of pounding clothes: Sound of pounding clothes.

向晚多:愈接近傍晚愈多。
More in the evening: More as evening approaches.

“莫见”句:勉励魏万及时努力,不要虚度年华。
The sentence 莫见: Encouraging Wei Wan to make efforts in time and not to waste his time.

蹉跎:此指虚度年华。说文新附:“蹉跎,失时也。”
Waste: Referring to wasting time. According to Shuowen Jiezi: 蹉跎 means losing time.


诗文: 朝闻游子唱离歌,昨夜微霜初渡河。
鸿雁不堪愁里听,云山况是客中过。
关城树色催寒近,御苑砧声向晚多。(树 一作:曙)
莫见长安行乐处,空令岁月易蹉跎。
