漫漫: Also written as 时旦. From the Chu Ci: Bright autumn distant night. Distant night refers to a long night.
宁戚: A minister of the Qi state during the Spring and Autumn Period. From the Mengzi Commentary: The 'Three Qi Records' states: When Duke Huan of Qi went out at night to welcome guests Ning Qi struck the horns of his ox and sang loudly 'The southern mountain is bright the white stone is dazzling. I was not fortunate enough to receive the throne from Yao and Shun. Wearing a short cloth and a single garment I arrived at the bone of the ox at midnight. How long will this long night last?' Duke Huan summoned him and spoke with him pleased with him and appointed him as a high official.
白石烂: A phrase from the ancient poem Song of Feeding the Oxen. It means that the mountain stones are white and dazzling.
陈平: A minister of the Western Han Dynasty. From the Records of the Grand Historian: Chen Ping said I served King Wei but he did not listen to my advice so I left and served King Xiang.
