Title: Inscription on Wujiang in the Fourth Year of Jianyan
Translation:
In the fourth year of Jianyan in the year of Gengxu inscribed on Wujiang.
I have traveled by boat across Taihu Lake several times before. Now that I have returned to this place why do I always feel that sorrow and regret are as abundant as the clouds on the lake and the water within it? I am prepared to exchange the long sword in my box for a flat boat and retire on the river. Being an official was never my intention and my secluded life immersed in the beauty of mountains and rivers has been delayed.
Slicing the perch pouring fine wine and singing a mournful song. Growing up in a peaceful era I never expected to experience the hardships of war today. I want to unleash the waves of the Three Rivers eliminate all invading Jin forces and never seek peace through negotiation. However looking back at the court it is disheartening and tear-inducing to see that the court has no intention of reclaiming lost territories.
